AYBReviews: MSI GeForce GTX 960 GAMING 2G

Power Draw

As we mentioned early in this article, we tested the power draw from the outlet for this setup. We took three recordings, one at idle, another while playing Far Cry 4 and the last while running FurMark. Just like all the other tests, we did this for stock, GPU overclocked, as well as GPU and Memory overclocked.

Strangely there seems to be an anomoly with turning up the power target and not overclocking the card. The stress test showed the highest draw with it configured this way. Even more peculiar is the fact that the stress test power draw creeps lower when the GPU is pushed, and even lower still when memory is also adjusted. Game play power draw falls on the expected curve, however.

Final Thoughts

MSI has put together a really nice graphics card. It performs very well for the price point, and shows clearly that it is capable of 1080p gaming without an issue. Running even cooler than most of the competition, the fans rarely even kick in, allowing for much more silent gaming experiences.

The MSI GeForce GTX 960 GAMING 2G is just as good as the competition and is worthy of a closer look if you’re in the market for a sub $300 graphics card. It has solid build quality, good overclocking headroom, and a cooling solution that has proved itself capable of the task.
