BENCHMARKS — CATZILLA
Well, MSI did it again. They didn’t just throw one 980GTX into the Beast, they threw two 980GTX M Series cards in here, in SLI. This makes this Beast one of the top laptops out there. I’m not going to lie, running benchmarks on this laptop was a lot of fun.
This score is astounding for a laptop. Most laptops might, key word might, break the 10,000 point range.
Running the tests, I noticed that the loading time of most of them are the fastest I have ever seen in laptops. Not a single second was lost in load times. The main factor in the load times is mostly based on the running RAID 0 on the 4x Kingston 120GB M.2 SSDs.
IN-GAME TESTING — GRAND THEFT AUTO 5
Alright, who doesn’t enjoy playing Grand Theft Auto 5 at 60 FPS? I tried a few different settings to try to slow the Beast down, but frankly, none of them worked.
I am using FRAPS to run a 300 second benchmark during the same mission.
We start by making sure everything is set to their minimum:
During this benchmark we reached an astounding average of 117.262 frames per second. Keep in mind that that is everything is on minimum. The controls were very sensitive during this test; I had no latency with the keyboard or the screen.
Next, we run it at the default settings:
With the default settings we reached a pretty amazing 58.356 FPS. The game looked solid and ran smoothly, with no problems loading or generating any features. The controls were spot on — again, no latency with the game.
What happens when we use NVIDIA’s Experience to optimize the game for the laptop?
With this test, we again used the same 300 second benchmark on the same mission. We reached a decent 57.668 Frames per Second. The controls were getting to have millisecond latency though, with tiny frame jumps every few hundred, or so, frames. Overall the system can run GTA V with no problem. If you really want a system that you can show off and be proud of, the Beast may be the system you want.
Now just for my own pleasure and curiosity I decided to crank everything to the max, loading GTA V with every setting maxed out. The results astounded me:
With everything pushed to the max, we’re still getting 56.605 FPS! This was amazing; I was expecting it to drop drastically, but the Beast has proven itself. The frame jumps happen more often now, but there is barely any latency with the controls. The graphics are the sharpest I have ever seen as well. The 18.4″ screen shows its true colours here, the vibrancy of the different colours is just astounding on this Beast.
