The Weekly Nerd 13

It’s FRIDAY, July 24th! I am eagerly awaiting my first obstacle course and couldn’t keep myself busy with anything else… so here is your nerdy news for the week!

The Good Dinosaur

From the minds of “what if X had feelings?” we bring you the next installment: “what if dinosaurs had feelings?” I love a good family film, they do a good job in this trailer showing the bond between the human and dino leads in the film. A little bit of wonder and amazement is something we can all use from time to time.

American Ultra

What happens when your friendly neighborhood stoner is somehow magically an American Super Secret Agent? He turns into a one man wrecking crew… apparently.

Attack On Titan

The first trailer has been released with subtitles, to give us a view of what is being billed as a live-action epic: the L.A. remake of the popular Attack On Titan anime. I enjoyed the first 14 episodes of this anime, but I never understood the depths to which people have attached themselves to this story. The trailer looks cool, though there is a very visible difference between the live action and the CG content.

Spectre

The latest in the Daniel Craig-led James Bond films received its first full length trailer on Tuesday. They do a decent job explaining some of the motivations for the film, showing you the villians and captivating you with the action. As always, the Bond girls are… well, they are Bond Girls. I’m sure we will have a few more trailers in the coming months.

Moving on to News!

The CW have released the costume changes for “The Flash” season 2. The changes are subtle, most notably they have given him the white background on the chest symbol. I find this fairly amusing, seeing as the comic book costume has done away with the background color. Ye old switcheroo?

Kevin Feige has confirmed that Wasp will become a part of Marvel’s Phase 3 plans. For those who don’t know, Wasp was one of the founding members of the Avengers back in the ’60s. In the Comic Book universe she is Janet Van Dyne, the wife of Hank Pym; her powers are similar to that of Ant-Man, but not as extensive. Wasp is able to shrink to a height of a few centimeters and grow to giant size. She is also able to manipulate bio-electric energy into a blast form. The MCU is more likely to bring Wasp to life through her daughter, Hope Van Dyne, played by Evangeline Lilly.

Disney has announced yet another live action remake of a classic cartoon. Plans have been announced that The Sword In the Stone will receive the live-action remake. Game of Thrones writer-producer Bryan Cogman is currently set to pen the script. How do you feel about Disney relaunching all of these classics?

Brian Michael Bendis has announced his elation with the quality of production on Marvel’s AKA Jessica Jones, due out on Netflix this fall. In an interview he is quoted as saying:

“I’m going to burst. The show is so good. I have seen the first couple of episodes, and because I didn’t work on it directly, I can say this with full no-ego fanfare: I loved it! And believe me, I was going to be the hardest on it. Harder than any of you. Jessica is a part of my DNA. A bad Jessica Jones show would have hurt me deeply.”

Rumors have surfaced surrounding Star Wars Episode VIII. It is being circulated that Benicio Del Toro has been offered the role of the primary villain. Keep in mind that these are still only rumors, but It’s nice that they are looking toward some bigger names and established actors to fill some of the spots. I like that they go with lesser knowns for the primary castings, but having bigger names for some of the supporting roles can only help.

Hot on the heels of becoming 2015’s highest grossing film so far, a Jurassic World sequel has been announced via the @jurassicpark twitter. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are both reprising their roles from the film. The sequel is set (already) for a June 2018 release.

Photos of Charlie Hunnam on the set of the new “King Arthur” movie have been released by Entertainment Weekly. We have a couple down below, but check out the full album here.

Kickstarter of the Week!

It’s also miniatures! Reaper Minis currently has their 3rd Kickstarter for the Bones Collection of miniatures. Reaper is well-known in the miniature gaming world for providing highly detailed models at affordable prices. The best part about this KS is that you can choose a simple $1 pledge and then pick from the available add ons, which means that you can get some of the best minis for a really affordable price. Granted, these minis come unpainted and require some work to make them game-ready, but they are still great. The campaign ends on Saturday, check it out!
