The Weekly Nerd 04

Moar from the internet!! There really wasn’t a ton of trailers this week, but there were some season finales recently, as well as tons of casting news and on-set photos from some of our watched series. Let’s take a look.

First, let’s check out the three trailers that caught my eye.

1. Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials

I enjoyed the first movie and it appears the second is going to keep going with the intensity that the first finished off with. Dylan O’Brien has grown a bunch in his career and I think he has potential to do more.

2. Lucifer

What happens when Lucifer leaves hell and spends some time on earth? Fox has shown the initial look trailer for the TV adaptation of the DC comics license. Some shots of people dying and Lucifer being an anti-hero within the confines of his little world. I’ll give this one a shot, add it to the neverending list of Comic Book titles recording on my PVR.

3. Minority Report

Another in the trend of continuing a movie franchise on the small screen, Minority Report follows one of the twins from the original movie in his quest to do something to protect the people he sees in his visions. Currently pegged as a TV movie as Fox wants to test the waters before throwing it into full production. Make no mistake though, this is a pilot for a series.

Now, on to some newsy type things.

In some set photos released late last week, we get to see Anthony Mackie’s Falcon and the new villian Crossbones from Captain America: Civil War. Not too shabby.

One more into the fray. Apparently they have added Doomsday to the list of characters to be on screen in Batman V Superman. In a way, it kind of makes sense since they likely wouldn’t do an entire movie about Bats and Supes fighting. Since this is a Justice League launch the needed something to bring them together. Lex Luthor is good, but something to put them in mortal danger is better. On the Web, many sites believe the Doomsday within the story may be created from Zod’s corpse. Sources have advised that Doomsday will look very faithful to the comic books.

The line in the trailer that seems to have everyone’s panties in a bunch (“Do you bleed? You will”) is reportedly from a dream sequence within the movie and it isn’t clear who is saying it. Continuing on, there have also been rumors indicating that The classic Purple and Green power suit will make an appearance in the movie.

Some set photos have been released of Jared Leto’s Joker and even though it was stated that the tattoos would not be there on final cut, you can clearly see them. Now, with the exception of the one on his forehead, I don’t mind them. We don’t know the backstory of THIS Joker, and it is entirely possible that those tattoos were recieved during his fall–when he was still a criminal, and before he became Joker. Ok, That’s enough of me putting this off…

If you don’t watch CW’s “the Flash” you really should. Yes, it’s campy and cheesy at times. And yes, it does have some unnessecary dramas but, this series is possibly one of the best on television this season (at least of the ones that I watch). The season Finale shows Barry finally fully embracing his powers and realizing there are things that he can do that absolutely no one else can. I won’t go in to spoilers for the show, but you do get to have some confirmations on fan rumors and name dropping that have been happening all season.

The showrunners and star Grant Gustin have confirmed that they will be doing multiple Speedsters next season, and tapping into the Multiverse. The gratuitous helmet shot and what seemed to be fear coming from Eobard Thawne at the end of the episode are great little bits.

Who will we see next season? Jay Garrick is pretty obvious, but will we see Wally West? Bart Allen/Impulse? Given the direct tie-in to The Legends of Tomorrow and Vandal Savage (I talked about that last week), would it be possible to see some of the Savage-created villians like Baroness BlitzKreig? Many crazy things abound!

Kickstarter pick!

In the Company of Dragons is a 3rd-party-created Pathfinder module which gives the players the ability to play as dragons. Dragons are normally NPC characters and while the dragon is a fixture within the world, they are mysterious and quite often, not playable. This will give you a campaign module you can use to play as a dragon, with your entire party as dragons. Very curious.

That is all I have for this week people, it’s been a busy one for me and I haven’t had as much time to scour and peruse. See you next week!
