The Weekly Nerd 22

(Editor’s Note — I’ve scrubbed Dave’s second attempt at using Rebecca Black’s 2011 smash hit “Friday” to start this column. Those responsible have been sacked have not been sacked, but, like, damn, Dave. At least use Sandstorm or something. –JM)

Trailers

The international trailer for The Good Dinosaur is full of feels. I guess we can truthfully ask: “What if dinosaurs had feelings?”

I was wondering how long it would be before a movie exposing Armstrong’s doping was developed and released. I do have to say that Ben Foster looks really great in this trailer; I am actually expecting stand-out performances from most of the cast in this film.

The first few minutes of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D premiere. I really like the quick development of Quake. I am sure that we will see some flashbacks of training and how it was developed, but for now let’s see some powers.

News

On to some news bits?

spidy

In describing how they are going to introduce Spidey and how old he is, the best quote came from director Jon Watts: “There are only so many times you can kill Uncle Ben.” The filmmaker explains that “I love the idea of making a coming-of-age high-school movie. We’re really going to see Peter Parker in high school and get deeper into that side of it. He’s just 15 now.”

Boosterbeetle

If the rumors (and I only say rumors because we have not had an official DC announcement) are to be believed, we may have some sweet, sweet buddy-cop action coming from the DC camps. Booster Gold and Blue Beetle have long been rumored to be making their way to a movie or television series. In fact, there was some information indicating that the current “Ray Palmer/Atom” on Arrow was originally slated to be Ted Kord’s Blue Beetle. Now, if they manage to pull off the character’s humor and personality I will be quite happy. Booster Gold is flamboyant and egotistical. Paired with Blue Beetle’s wise-cracking comedy, we could have a great time at the theatre. We can all hope that we don’t see a repeat of the Smallville episode.

The above photo (left) was released this week, and it makes me sad. This is the version of Red Tornado that they are going to be using in Supergirl this season. I’ve also included one of the more recent images from Young Justice (right). I just don’t understand the desire to make your villians look like they were pulled right off the set of Power Rangers….

The last bit of news I wanted to show you all this week was the release of the variant covers for the upcoming Dark Knight III. This is the sequel that millions of Batman fans have been anticipating for a very long time. Frank Miller’s Dark Knight series has been touted as the one of the best Batman stories of all time, and fans have been waiting for this story since 2001. In all fairness, there were 15 years between Dark Knight Returns and Strikes Again, so we are right on schedule. I will most definitely be picking this up.

Also, if someone wants to hook up a hard workin’, good lookin’ writer for Christmas…. I’d be honored to receive this.
