Blizzard recently announced a new career posting today for a Senior Software Engineer, Classic Games. The position focuses on restoring Diablo 2, StarCraft, and WarCraft III “to their former glory” for modern machines. From the career posting:
“Compelling stories. Intense multiplayer. Endless replayability. Qualities that made StarCraft, Warcraft III, and Diablo II the titans of their day. Evolving operating systems, hardware, and online services have made them more difficult to be experienced by their loyal followers or reaching a new generation.
We’re restoring them to glory, and we need your engineering talents, your passion, and your ability to get tough jobs done.”
What exactly does this mean? Well, there’s no official word yet! However, it’s clear that they’re planning updating their legendary games for modern machines in meaningful ways. The word is still out on whether or not these are gameplay and graphical improvements, or just patches and updates to ensure compatibility, remove bugs, and prevent cheating.
With BlizzCon coming up this weekend, perhaps we’ll find out more in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more details!
