When the Final Fantasy VII remake was announced this past E3, we knew that things would never be the same. Following that, Square was quick to confirm that there would be definite changes made to the play style and story. Fans were quick to worry and wonder on what possible changes could be made to their beloved game. Check out the trailer below to see what Square has given us so far.
I have to say I am quite impressed with what Square has done so far, but that brings us to the current issue.
After this trailer was released to the public, we were also given the strange and confusing news that the game would be a “multi-part series” that promised a unique experience. Square has not clarified what they meant by this, which of course has led the Internet to explode with half-baked theories and fear of what may happen to the game.
Personally, I say just sit back, relax, and wait for one of the greatest gaming moments in history.
Square has already said that they are sparing no expense on this game and have already stated that the remake will be much larger than the original game. I think it makes perfect sense that they will need to release it in chapters or episodes due to its sheer size and scope.
There is only two major issues I see arising with anything episodic. The first is, of course, will Square cut us a fair deal on buying this game in pieces? Are they going to charge us $20 for every part? Or are they going to squeeze every last penny and ask for $60 per chapter? The second issue I can see happening is will there be enough to do in each chapter between waiting periods? Will these chapters come out every three months? Six months? Two years? If these two issues are handled well, I have no doubt that this will be one of the greatest gaming experiences that most of us will ever share. Besides, if they were to finish a game of this magnitude in it’s entirety before they released it, I think we would be waiting until 2025 to actually play it.
Along with the updated trailer, Square has also announced that for the first time, Final Fantasy VII will be available on a new gen system. Players can now download Final Fantasy VII on their PS4 at $15.99 US. Anyone that purchases the title will also receive a static custom theme featuring the cityscape of Midgar for their PS4.
