In the world of The Surge, Humanity has become increasingly overpopulated and decadent. Most of Earth’s jobs have become obsolete, and robots now dominate the workforce. Human workers use exoskeletons to enhance their abilities to keep up with their robotic counter parts, but with the increasing intelligence of the machines, it’s only a matter of time before humanity as we know it will be no more.
Deck13 Interactive, who created Lords of the Fallen, have set their eyes on a grim dystopian future where robots rule and humanity’s days are numbered. The developers note that The Surge is ‘very much in the spirit of Dark Souls‘ embracing sci-fi themes that “…might remind you more of BioShock” than the horror-fantasy of the Dark Souls series, reports Deck13’s Jan Klose in an interview with IGN. This sounds like a dream come true to me.
In The Surge, players will reportedly get to pilot a full customizable exoskeleton suit, and use it to battle deadly industrial robots to retrieve upgrades and level up their combat skills. The developers promise visceral combat with a unique dismemberment system, and a ton of upgrades via cybernetic implants, customizable weapons with loot and blueprints found throughout the game.
