The Weekly Nerd 23

We have touched in previous episodes on the upcoming Peter Pan reboot movie that opens today. Early estimates are showing that the movie will open to less than stellar numbers. The reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are currently giving the film a 38% and its opening weekend is on track to make about $21 Million. Given its $150 Million budget, I think we are safe to say that it’s going to be a dud. Now, I will admit that I LOVE the trailers for this film. Jackman looks great and the depth of colors that are presented just draw me in. Could the white-washing scandal surrounding the casting of Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily be swaying the masses?

DC

There has been some press surrounding the upcoming DC movies. Will Smith stated during an interview that even though he worked with Jared Leto for nearly six months on the set of Suicide Squad, he has never once had a conversation with the man. How might that be? Leto was always in character. Method to the end of filming, when he was on set he immersed himself in the role and never broke character. Hearing news like this makes me happy, knowing that Leto grasped and held on to this role with everything he had.

We have confirmation that the Wonder Woman movie will take place in 3 distinctive time periods and locations. Themyscira (Wonder Woman’s home), in 1916 during World War I, and in the present day. It will also lay some further groundwork for the first Justice League movie, slated for release six months later.

Lastly in DC news, the viral marketing campaigns for Batman v. Superman are continuing with interviews of Lex Luthor in Fortune Magazine (yes, Lex Luthor, not Jesse Eisenberg), and the announcement of the Lex/OS system that was unveiled at NYCC.

Who’s in the mood for another reboot!?! well, I will admit that this one had me smiling a little bit. Sony has picked up the rights to Danger Mouse and plans to make a full-length animated feature. We have no clue if this will a full story or an origin, but who cares, it’s DANGER MOUSE!!!!

Now that we are on the topic of reboots… (see what I did there? SEGWAY LIKE A BOSS!) there have been some shortlist casting announcements for the upcoming Power Rangers reboot movie. This is coming along slowly and we finally have some firm information. The shortlist of actors is as follows: Daniel Zovatto (“It Follows”), Ross Butler (“Chasing Life”) and Brian “Sene” Marc for Zack (The Black Ranger); KJ Apa (“Shortland Street”), Austin Butler (“The Shannara Chronicles”) and Mitchell Hope (“The Descendants”) for Jason (The Red Ranger). Naomi Scott (“The Martian”) has been confirmed as the Pink Ranger.

Daniel Craig has gone on the record stating he is done with doing Bond movies unless he gets a long break first. when asked if he would do another one he responded as such

“Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on. I haven’t given it any thought. For at least a year or two, I just don’t want to think about it. I don’t know what the next step is. I’ve no idea. Not because I’m trying to be cagey. Who the fuck knows? At the moment, we’ve done it. I’m not in discussion with anybody about anything. If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money.”

He also had 3 simple words of advice for anyone that would be playing the role after him:”Don’t Be Shit.

Class

Lastly, I wanted to cover something that I missed last week. A spin-off of Dr. Who has been announced. The series will be titled “Class” and will be centered around Coal Hill school. The series will tackle the dangers of breaking the walls of time and space, leaving the city unprotected. This will be the fourth spinoff of Dr. Who, following “Torchwood”, an animated series titled “K-9” and a children’s series titled “The Sarah Jane Adventures”.
